Basement Finishing in Ankeny & Des Moines
Most homes around here have a basement that's just storage. Finishing it is the most affordable square footage you'll ever add: a family room, a guest bedroom, a bathroom, a bar, a home office. Central IA Home Services plans the whole space, handles the moisture and code work first, and builds it to last. Fully insured, written estimates, one point of contact from the first visit to the final walk-through.
What we check first
A finished basement is only as good as what's behind the drywall. Before anything gets covered, we check:
Moisture and waterproofing. We look at the walls, floor and drainage and fix problems first, so your new finishes stay dry.
Egress and code. A basement bedroom needs an egress window. We tell you what the code requires and include it in the plan.
Mechanicals and obstructions. Ductwork, plumbing, the furnace and water heater get planned around from the start, not boxed in as an afterthought.
Floor leveling. Concrete floors are rarely flat. We correct it before flooring goes down.
Backup sump pump. Every finished basement we build is offered with a battery-backup sump pump, so a storm power outage doesn't put water on your new floors.

Our Remodeling Process
Here's how a basement project runs with us, start to finish:
01 Consultation & Visioning
We walk the basement with you: what you want the space to do, where the mechanicals sit, how the budget looks. Then we check moisture, egress and the floor before anything gets designed.
02 Design & Selection
We draw the layout around your mechanicals and egress, then walk you through selections: flooring, ceiling, lighting, trim, bathroom and bar fixtures. You get a written, itemized estimate with options priced separately.
03 Demolition & Construction
Framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC adjustments, insulation, drywall, flooring and trim. Our crew handles it with our licensed plumbing and electrical partners, on a schedule you can see, with one person to call.
04 Installation & Finishing Touches
Paint, flooring, doors, trim, lighting and fixtures go in last, and we check every outlet, switch, drain and door before we call it finished.
05 Clean-Up & Walk-through
Your home should be left clean and orderly. We’ll take you through the new space, answer any questions, and make sure you’re delighted with the result.

Basement finishing questions we hear most
How much does it cost to finish a basement in the Des Moines area?
It depends on square footage and what goes in it. A simple family room with a drywall ceiling and LVP flooring is a different job than a basement with a bedroom, egress window, full bathroom and wet bar. After a free visit we give you a written, line-item estimate, so you can see the cost of each piece and build the basement in phases if you'd rather.
Does a basement bedroom need an egress window?
Yes. For a room to count as a legal bedroom it needs an egress window or door large enough to climb out of, with a window well if it's below grade. We price the egress cut-out as part of the plan rather than surprising you later, and we'll tell you up front if your foundation makes it tricky.
Do I need a permit to finish my basement?
Yes, for a finished basement. Framing, electrical, plumbing and egress all get permitted and inspected. We pull the permits, schedule the inspections and use licensed plumbing and electrical partners, so the space is legal, safe and counts as finished square footage when you sell.
